Abstract: In a number of of questions in analytic number theory, it is of interest to determine bounds for the number of lattice points lying on an arc of a conic or the number of divisors of an integer lying in a given arithmetical progression. We review the best results known on these questions and present a simple identity for the vandermonde determinant which allows to recover these results rather easily.
