Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Delhi Centre, a
unique institution devoted to the research, teaching and application of
statistics, natural sciences and social sciences. The main campus of ISI
is located in the northern fringes of the metropolis of Calcutta. Founded
by Professor P.C. Mahalanobis in Calcutta on 17th December, 1931, the
institute gained the status of an Institution of National Importance by
an act of the Indian Parliament in 1959. Most of the research and
teaching of the institute takes place in the three campuses located at
Calcutta, Delhi and Bangalore. The other centres are primarily involved
in projects and consultancy in Statistical Quality Control and Operations
Research. The Delhi Centre has four departments/units like (i) Planning
Unit, (ii) Statistical Quality Control & Operation Research Unit (SQC
& OR) (iii) Theoretical Statistics and Mathematics Unit.
Indian
Statistical Institute, Delhi Centre Library has an excellent collection
of books, bound volumes and other documents in the fields of Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Econometrics, Operations
Research and Statistical Quality Control, which are
regularly being expanded by adding latest publications. The Library
subscribes to all major journals both foreign as well as Indian in the
said fields. The holdings of the library are available on the web at URL

With
the special grant received every year, from the National Board for
Higher Mathematics, Department of Atomic Energy, Govt.
of India, library is strengthening its resources
in the fields of Mathematics and Statistics. To keep the libraries
of Northern Region informed about the new additions of
books and monographs, a quarterly issue of ”Newsletter” is being
issued and distributed to the Departments of Mathematics
of each university in the said region. Under the scheme
the library has been
providing Current Awareness Services and photocopies
facility since 1994.
