Additional Reading
You have extracts from several books on the reading
list. The books
by Blaug, Heilbroner, Smith, Marx, Hicks, Keynes, Galbraith, Bowles, Shleifer
and Stiglitz are all worth reading more of. Nearly all the books I
suggest
here are in the library.
Hicks' Theory
of Economic History is a lovely little book on economic development
that I strongly recommend.
Mancur Olson has written two classics: The Logic of
Collective Action, and The Rise and Decline of Nations.
Although the former is more famous, I personally liked the latter book
better. While we're on big ideas and development, a book by a
non-economist, Jared Diamond's Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of
Human Societies is an exhilarating intellectual adventure.
Tibor Scitovsky's The
Joyless Economy is highly recommended.
Krugman has written several other popular books such as The
Age of Diminished Expectations, Pop Internationalism, Peddling
Prosperity, and The Accidental Theorist.
Stiglitz also has some recent popular books. Search the
library catalog for them.
