  • Tu: Section 1.6 and Concept of Independence.
  • Th: Sections 2.1 and 2.5.

• Week-5: (02/18 - 02/20)
  • Tu: Sections 3.1, 3.4 and 3.6 (Random variables, distributions, examples with Bernoulli, Binomial, Discrete Uniform, Hypergeometric, Geometric).
  • Th: Section 3.1 and 6.1 (Two random variables, joint distributions, marginals, Conditional distributions, independence. Convolution Formula).

• Week-6: (02/25 - 03/27)
  • Tu: Section 3.1 (Many random variables, join and marginal distributions, independence. Distribution of sum, product, maximum and minimum. Negative Binomial distribution. Sum of independent Poisson. Multinomial distribution).
  • Th: Section 3.2 (Expectation, interpretation, sum formula, indicator method, examples. Tail Sum Formula, Booles's Inequality, Union Bound, Inclusion-exclusion formula).

• Week-7: (03/04 - 03/06)
  • Tu: Sections 3.2 and 3.3 (Function of a random variable and its expectations, square and higher moments. Variance, standard deviation. Expectation and independence, product formula. Variance and independence and sum formula, examples).
  • Th: Sections 3.5 and 3.6: (Hypergeometric and Poission distributions).

• Week-8: (03/11 - 03/13)
  • Tu: Review for Midterm.
  • Th: Midterm Examination.

• Week-9: (03/18 - 03/20)
  • Tu: Sections 3.2 and 3.3 (Tail estimates, Markov and Chebychev Inequalities, LLN, CLT).
  • Th: Sections 4.1 and 4.2 (Normal, Uniform, Exponential random variables as scaling limits of discrete random variables).

  • Tu: No Class: Spring Break.

  • Tu: Sections 4.1, 4.4 and 4.5 (Expectation, variance, standard deviation of continuous random variables. Cumulative distribution function, properties, Fundamental Theorem of Probability. Linear transformation of a continuous random variable).
