Speaker:<\/strong> Dr. Philippe Aghion<\/a>, Nobel Laureate Professor, College de France, INSEAD &\u00a0<\/span>the London School of Economics (LSE) Registration Link<\/strong>: CLICK TO REGISTER<\/a><\/p>\n We are honoured to host Dr. Philippe Aghion, the 2025 Nobel Prize laureate in Economics and Professor at the Coll\u00e8ge de France, INSEAD, and the London School of Economics. Dr. Aghion is one of the world\u2019s leading scholars on growth, innovation, and the economics of creative destruction. His work has shaped global understanding of how innovation drives long-term prosperity and how economies can transition towards cleaner, more sustainable growth.<\/p>\n In this talk, Dr. Aghion will deliver the virtual public lecture on green innovation and energy transition.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n We are equally privileged to be joined by Shri Suman Bery, Vice Chairperson of NITI Aayog, Government of India, in the rank of a Cabinet Minister, who will be chairing this lecture.<\/p>\n Dr. Philippe Aghion is a Professor at the College de France, at INSEAD, and at the London School of Economics,\u00a0 and a Fellow of the Econometric Society and of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. His research\u00a0 focuses on the economics of innovation and growth. With Peter Howitt, he pioneered the so-called\u00a0 Schumpeterian Growth theory which became a leading paradigm to analyze the interplay between\u00a0 growth, innovation, market structure, and firm dynamics. Much of this work is summarized in their joint\u00a0 books <\/span>Endogenous Growth Theory <\/span><\/i>(MIT Press, 1998) and <\/span>The Economics of Growth (<\/span><\/i>MIT Press, 2009), in his book with Rachel Griffith on <\/span>Competition and Growth (<\/span><\/i>MIT Press, 2006), in his survey \u201cWhat Do We\u00a0 Learn from Schumpeterian Growth Theory\u201d (joint with U. Akcigit and P. Howitt), and more recently in <\/span>The\u00a0 Power of Creative Destruction <\/span><\/i>(joint with C. Antonin and S. Bunel). <\/span><\/p>\n In 2001, Dr. Aghion received the Yrjo Jahnsson Award of the best European economist under age 45, in 2009 he received the John Von Neumann Award, and in March 2020 he shared the BBVA \u201cFrontier of Knowledge Award\u201d with Peter Howitt for \u201cdeveloping an economic growth theory based on the innovation that emerges from the\u00a0 process of creative destruction\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n He has been awarded the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel in 2025 (jointly with Peter Howitt for their works on creative destruction, and with Joel Mokyr).<\/span><\/p>\n Shri Suman Bery is a distinguished policy economist, he has served as Royal Dutch Shell\u2019s global Chief Economist, Director-General of the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), and held senior roles at the Prime Minister’s Economic Council, World Bank and the Reserve Bank of India. His expertise spans energy policy, economic strategy, financial sector development, and the political economy of reform.<\/p>\n The India Sustainable Growth Hub (ISGH)<\/strong><\/a> has been co-established by the Centre for Research on the Economics of Climate, Food, Energy and Environment (CECFEE)<\/strong> <\/a>at the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Delhi<\/strong>,<\/a> and the International Growth Centre (IGC)<\/strong><\/a> at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE)<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n ISGH brings together ISI\u2019s domestic expertise and IGC\u2019s global policy and research ecosystem to generate high-quality evidence for India\u2019s transition to sustainable and inclusive growth. The inaugural ISGH Environment Day was held on 18th December 2o24 at ISI Delhi.<\/p>\n
