Lectures on
Probability and Stochastic Processes III

Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata
November 20 - 24, 2008

Direction:
The institute is 500 metres south of Dunlop crossing and 5 kilometres north of Shyambazar five-point crossing along B. T. Road. Shyambazar crossing is also the access point for the underground Metro Rail station, Shyambazar. The bus stop for the institute is ISI or Statistical, which is the one immediately after Dunlop going south. The Guest House is at the next stop called Bonhoogly, which is also couple of stops away from Ananya cinema stop going North. The stop south of Ananya is Tobin Road.
While coming by taxi, the general direction is towards Dunlop crossing. The more specific location should be given by Tobin Road, Ananya cinema and/or Bonhoogly, as the driver may not be familiar with the location of the institute. The institute will be on your left coming from south.
The cars coming from the airport move a bit north on Jessore road to take the elevated Belghoria expressway, get out on B. T. Road through a minor ramp near Dunlop crossing and head towards the institute. Alternatively, they may go south on Jessore road to reach Nagerbazar and turn right to Chiria More, where they again turn right to get on to B. T. Road to reach the institute.
The cars coming from one of the two main railway stations, Sealdah turn right on exiting the station to get on the ramp of a flyover and then right again on to the flyover, which continues as Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road, also known as Upper Circular Road till Shyambazar five-point crossing, where they continue straight on to B. T. Road.
The cars coming from the other and bigger railway station in the neighbouring city, Howrah crosses the river through Rabindra Setu next to the station. After going through the Burrabazar area, the cars get on to Chittaranjan Avenue, also known Central Avenue. The road becomes Jatindra Mohan Avenue and then the cars turn right at Baghbazar — which comes 500 metres after a red temple on the median of the road — to take Bhupen Bose Avenue, which lead to Shyambazar five-point crossing, where the cars turn left to B. T. Road. After 2 pm, the cars can move straight ahead from Baghbazar through one-way Lockgate flyover to meet B. T. Road further north from Shyambazar five-point crossing.

Taxi:
The blue-bordered yellow taxis of Kolkata run on meter. However, the final fare has to be converted from the amount shown on the meter. The taxi driver should carry a conversion chart, but here is a quick conversion formula. It depends on the type of the meter in use. There are two types of meter.
For the newer digital meter inside the car, you should multiply the amount shown by a factor of 2 and add Rs. 2. For the older mechanical meter outside the car, which is fewer in number, you should multiply the amount shown by a factor of 4 and add Rs. 2. The final initial fare is Rs. 22 for 2 kilometers and then Rs. 2.00 for every 200 metres after that.
Other than the meter-run taxis, the airport and the railway stations have prepaid taxi booths. Please keep your receipt till you reach your destination and hand the smaller piece to the driver only after that.
There are also few red colored taxis which run on LPG fuel. They have same rate and newer digital meters.
In case of any trouble, you should contact Traffic Control Room at 9830010000 or 9830811111.
