Title: Majorana fermions and topological Quantum Computing
Abstract of Talk
Majorana fermions have recently attracted a lot of attention in research on quantum computation and condensed matter physics. This interest in Majorana fermions comes mainly from two reasons: Firstly, they are topologically protected and hence can be used for fault-tolerant quantum computation. Secondly, Majorana fermions provide the unitary representation of braid group and hence are promising candidates for topological quantum computation. In my presentation, I will take a detour through the algebra of Majorana fermions and show as to how the Clifford algebra of Majorana fermions gives them all the special properties they have. We will also show how Majorana fermions give matter exotic quantum properties. Finally, we will also look into the logical architecture of the Majorana fermions and their foundational role in quantum physics and quantum computation.
