Country Economist, India Sustainable Growth Hub (ISGH)

Job Description

In collaboration with the International Growth Centre (IGC), based at the London School of Economics (LSE), the Centre for Research on the Economics of Climate, Food, Energy and Environment (CECFEE), based at the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) is launching the India Sustainable Growth Hub (ISGH). The ISGH aims to produce and translate cutting-edge, applied, and policy-relevant economic research from top scholars in India and globally into actionable insights that inform and support sustainable growth strategies in India.

We are seeking two (2) Country Economists to support ISGH’s research facilitation and policy engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support implementation of ISGH’s country strategy in coordination with programme leadership.
  • Identify policy priorities, co-design research projects, and build relationships with diverse stakeholders across sectors.
  • Work closely with program leadership to facilitate matchmaking between researchers, policymakers and other stakeholders. The role may require carrying out economic analysis to respond to stakeholder needs.
  • Proactively develop new research aligned with policy demand and ISGH’s thematic focus in line with the country strategy.
  • Manage and support impactful dissemination and capacity-building events, conferences and workshops as well as provide technical support to policymakers, researchers and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the delivery of high-quality policy and research outputs and activities. These include policy briefs, research papers, research summaries, blogs and events and conferences for dissemination of ISGH’s work to diverse audiences.
  • Engage in the management of research projects by ensuring, that outputs are received on time and satisfy our quality expectations.
  • Facilitate communication between Program Directors, Lead Academics and IGC Hub colleagues to ensure the integration of the country-relevant policy and the IGC research agenda, in the context of the evolving country situation.
  • Produce regular reports on research and policy developments in the country programme, as well as reporting on evolution of different projects and deliverables to the ISGH leadership team and the IGC Hub.
  • Perform other responsibilities that may be assigned and as reflected in the workplan.
  • Coordinate the dissemination of ISGH output through social media and the ISGH Webpage.
  • Help in organizing ISGH events.
  • Any other responsibilities as assigned from time to time

Essential Qualifications and Professional Experience

  • MA / M.Sc/ or M.Phil in Economics or a closely related field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in policy-relevant research, development planning, or programme implementation
  • Strong grounding in economic analysis, quantitative methods, and policy engagement, with experience in report writing.
  • Demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications and / or high-quality analytical outputs.
  • Experience working on development challenges in low-and middle-income contexts; India-specific experience and knowledge of the Indian economy will be strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to engage policymakers and translate research into policy.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills in English.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Economics or a closely related field.

Salary Range: ₹30–33 lakhs per annum (consolidated)

Reporting To: ISGH Managing Director
