Job Description
In collaboration with the International Growth Centre (IGC), based at the London School of Economics (LSE), the Centre for Research on the Economics of Climate, Food, Energy and Environment (CECFEE), based at the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), is launching the India Sustainable Growth Hub (ISGH). The ISGH aims to produce and translate cutting-edge, applied, and policy-relevant economic research from top scholars in India and globally into actionable insights that inform and support sustainable growth strategies in India.
We are seeking a dynamic and mission-driven Managing Director (MD) to lead the Hub. This is a leadership role that combines strategic thinking, policy engagement, and research management. The MD will work closely with Programme Directors, Lead Academics, and the IGC to guide ISGH’s research direction, strengthen its policy relevance, and ensure effective delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Facilitate communication between the ISGH leadership team, including Programme Directors, Lead Academics, and IGC Hub colleagues, to ensure the integration of a country-relevant policy agenda as determined by ISGH. Shape and implement ISGH’s Country Strategy Note (CSN), aligning the research agenda with national development priorities and stakeholder needs.
- Policy Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with senior policymakers, government agencies, think tanks, NGOs, private sector actors, and international organizations to ensure research uptake and policy relevance.
- Research Commissioning and Oversight: Identify, scope, build, and manage high-impact research themes and projects aligned with policy demands, reform opportunities, and knowledge gaps as set out in the CSN. Ensure methodological rigour, relevance, and timely delivery. This includes engaging with research and policy institutions, driving project generation through matchmaking, and supporting ISGH’s research commissioning process.
- Programme Delivery and Team Management: Supervise a multidisciplinary team to ensure effective delivery of ISGH goals. Oversee the full project cycle, including budgeting, compliance, and quality assurance.
- Output Development and Dissemination: Guide the production of policy briefs, research and synthesis papers, and strategic outputs tailored to both academic and non-academic audiences. Represent ISGH at high-level policy and academic forums.
- Any other responsibilities as assigned from time to time.
Essential Qualifications and Professional Experience
- Master’s degree in Public Policy, Economics, Development Studies, or a related field from a reputed institution.
- At least 5 years’ experience in a leadership role in public policy, applied research, and institutional building in the energy, environment, and climate sectors. The candidate should have overseen large-scale research and policy initiatives across several states, built strategic partnerships with governments and donors, and managed organizational operations. They should offer a strong blend of research insight, strategic leadership, and policy engagement.
Salary Range: ₹35–40 lakhs per annum (consolidated)
Reporting To: ISGH Program Directors
