Sixth Lectures on Probability and Stochastic Processes

December 16 - 20, 2011 at ISI, Kolkata

The sixth meeting was held in ISI, Kolkata in December 2011. We had a very large number of participants (over 75) who enthusiastically participated in all the events. The two mini courses were given by

  • Manjunath Krishnapur, IISc, Bangalore, India (On Real and Complex Zeros of Random Polynomials and Analytic Functions) and
  • Pablo Ferrari, Universidad de Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires, Argentina (On Point Processes, Gibbs Measures and Random Graphs).

There were a total of nine poster presentations by graduate students. The undisclosed jury selected the following poster as the best poster

  • Sharp Threshold Properties of left-right Crossing in the Poisson Boolean Model by Mr. Ghurumuruhan Ganesan.

The following posters were also given honorable mention
  • Process Convergence of Self Normalized Sums on I.I.D. Coming from the Domain of Attraction of Stable Distribution by Mr. Arunangshu Biswas, Presidency College, Kolkata.

  • Evolutionary Stable Strategy against Multiple Mutants by Mr. Anirban Ghatak, IIT Bombay, Mumbai.

  • Infinite Color Urn Models by Ms. Debleena Thacker, ISI, Delhi.

On the break day the participants enjoyed a walk in a near by lake where they saw some of the rare migratory birds.

The workshop was generously funded by the National Board of Higher Mathematics and Theoretical Statistics and Mathematics Division of the Indian Statistical Institute. We thank both the organizations for that.
